The SEGT is a not for profit, volunteer based committee. All ticket purchases and support help us continue the SEGT each year, and it gives us the opportunity showcase our fantastic growers in each region, and to give support back to local gardens! 🌱
With support from a City of Sydney Council Food Support Grant the Co-op has teamed up with the Asylum Seekers Centre to run a community engagement and education project.
Asylum Seeker working bees are held every second Tuesday at the garden and an excursion to the Katoomba community food co-op and Farm it Forward project is happening in April.
Every fortnight garden volunteers harvest vegetables from the Newtown Station Kitchen Garden for the Asylum Seekers Centre ‘Lunch and Learn’ program. The vegetables are delivered by board member Sandra Clark, who volunteers each fortnight to pass on food technology and food handling skills to ASC clients.
Also, Co-op members and volunteers cook and serve lunch 4 times a year to 30-40 clients of the Asylum Seekers Centre, using produce from the garden.
You're invited to join Asylum Seekers Centre clients as a part of our Alfalfa House/ASC Gardening Program, for a day trip to Katoomba to experience sustainable farming, inspiration and fresh mountain air!

Farm It Forward is a charitable youth organisation running socio-environmental care programs for high school aged young people that focus on culturally aware and trauma informed youth support through growing, cooking and eating nutrient-dense fresh food.
We facilitate regenerative food production on already available, unused land, using earth friendly community care practices. Our work is centred around high school-aged young people in areas of social disadvantage as we believe in growing fresh food as an avenue for building skills, confidence and positive relationships, for greater mental, social and physical health.
Parliament on King
Every fortnight garden volunteers harvest and deliver vegetables to Parliament on King, a social enterprise café and catering business on King Street Newtown, providing food from the homelands of asylum seeker and refugee chefs. Also, each Saturday, Parliament on King delivers free, freshly cooked nutritious food to people facing precarity in Surry Hills.

We’re building a shed
Sydney City Council provided us with a grant to purchase a new shed which sits proudly at the eastern end of the garden. The installation of a ramp and stairs is on the way.
