Newtown Station Kitchen Garden relies on the help of our fantastic volunteers to keep growing and thriving. Alfalfa House is always looking for new members to support and help out.

At its heart, a community garden offers a chance to slow down and work with your hands, to learn practical skills, and to reconnect with the rhythms of nature. For many, it’s also a social space — a place to meet friends, share knowledge, and build relationships across generations and cultures.
Community gardens can support wellbeing by providing fresh food, outdoor activity, and a calm, restorative environment. They’re spaces of inclusion and care, where people feel welcome regardless of experience or background.
Importantly, people join because they want to contribute — to be part of something collective, to care for a shared space, and to see tangible results from their effort.
In a time where much of life is fast and digital, community gardens offer something simple and grounding: a place to grow, together.
No, you don't have to be a member of Alfalfa House to work in the garden. Everyone is welcome to volunteer as little or as much as they have time for.
However the annual subscription members pay supports the work we do in the garden–contributing to buying seeds & garden supplies, and assisting in the delivery of our community outreach projects.
So we'd love it if you considered becoming a member.
Membership is $10 annually.
